"Dear
Dr. Lewkowicz,
Shortcuts to Long Words arrived
in today's mail. I'm delighted. It will be perfect for a few of the older
students I work with. I've used Exercises from Work Workout, but
always hesitated to order it until I knew it would work with a student.
I love the reproducible pages. Now I can begin using it immediately with
any student and simply discontinue if it doesn't seem to be working for
that student. Also it will be easy to send some pages as homework, without
worrying about the child losing the whole book. Thanks so much. I'll continue
to recommend your materials!!" Phyllis Ericksen, NILD educational
therapist and private tutor, Wheaton, IL

Dear
Ms. Lewkowicz,
We are eighth graders
in Cincinnati. We
have been using your Word Workout book this year in reading class
and have really learned a lot. Even at the beginning of this year, we were
still getting short vowel sounds confused and still had trouble remembering
what a closed syllable was.
With your approach to reading, we could really
start all over again in a new way and have success with long words. As
we head toward high school, it is wonderful to know that we have a system
that we can rely on when we come to a difficult word
We just wanted you
to know how much your efforts have helped us. Thank you for all your hard
work.
Sincerely
yours,

".
. . the only program I have found that effectively teaches students how
to pronounce four and five syllable words . . . challenges bright
as well as average middle school and high school students who haven't yet
mastered this skill . . . most students also find that their spelling has
improved dramatically." Sherrie Glass, private reading consultant,

".
. . very useful that's what I needed. I was stuck remembering words .
. . once they get so big, you can't remember them. It helped me break down
the words into smaller parts in order to read them and comprehend them."
G. M., college student who was diagnosed as dyslexic and tutored while
a high school senior, Xenia, OH

"I
am presently using Word Workout with my 7th and 8th grade students
(2) at St. Dominic School in Cincinnati, Ohio. I am an LD tutor, working
mainly with decoding and reading problems. My students know all the syllable
division rules, but needed a systematic way of using them. The 6 steps
are easy to learn and follow. My students are now able to read 3-4-5 syllable
words with little problem. We study the meanings of these words in our
lessons also. I am very pleased with the Word Workout program and
would recommend it to any teacher who wants to help his/her students to
read more fluently." Kathleen Reupert, LD tutor, Cincinnati, OH

"Tutors
at Landmark College give Word Workout rave reviews for how effectively
it teaches students to recognize multisyllabic words. Other approaches
to syllabication are more time-consuming, and the student may still be
unable to pronounce the word even after it's broken down into syllables.
Students enjoy using the software; hearing the words pronounced makes the
program useful for individual practice and reinforcement." Linda
Hecker, Dean of Individual Instruction, Landmark College, Putney, VT

"Just
wanted to say how much I appreciate . . . your hard work to get a program
such as this ready for practitioners and others. For some students who
really only have multisyllable difficulties, this is perfect. It keeps
them engaged right away. For those who need to work with larger units than
the phoneme, this is the answer also . . . For some high school students,
this has been the first time that they were able to use a strategy to break
down a long word." Jean Sawicki, reading
therapist (O-G trained) and reading consultant, CT
